BMW Showroom (New Renovation)
It's early saturday morning but the members of the BMW motorad club has already assembled in the BMW head office in Tokwawan, Kowloon.......
This is the newly renovated car show room, at 1st floor......
And G/F is the service centre with a relatively smaller show place......
Two biker friends of mine......
Most BMW riders are using the bike just for fun. My friend already owns the Z4 so she seems very interested in the new launched Z4. It's the first BMW 2 seater with a retractable hard top and it takes only 20 secs to close up. Modern technology is incredible!
BMW Motorbike and Cars are now sharing the same show room, instead of two previously. Lots of sharing among the members. I guess the hot topic is the coming 1st superbike ever produced by BMW......
Want to have a glimpse of it? No problem at all. This is the newest masterpiece from BMW, the superbike S1000 RR!
Shots taken from the brochure together with M3 coupe and F800R naked street bike......
This bike will cost you around $350,000 HKD including tax. Expensive? It depends what you are comparing with.
Without tax (~ $250k), it's even cheaper than the DCS Scalatti SACD player. Although the DCS is in the top marque as far as digital technology can go at this moment, it's totally K.O by a properly setup LP turtable in my opinion. Remember, when you compare CD to LP, the former is always the loser!
And the front end of this bike looks like a beast, a monster!!
And this monster 1000RR is one of the fastest road transportation tool from point A to B.
Weighting just 180kg (dry weight) and with a inline 4 one liter engine, it produced almost 200 horse power and drive the bike from 0-100km in sub 3 secs!!!
So will I buy one myself? The answer is "NO". This bike is probably too fast for the roads in HK, which has a usual speed limit of just 50km and 70km. And it can easily exceed 200km/hr in just a few seconds!!
So unless you want risking to lose the driving license or having imprisonment, the traditional wisdom that "enough is enough" may be most applicable here :)
And the 2nd reason why I probably won't buy the 1000RR is I am so in love with my current R1200ST.
It's no superbike level and power (108hp) is much weeker comparing to 1000RR (197hp), but with 0-100km acceleration time of 3.5sec, it can still challange any supercar in a straight line.
But the most toxic about this bike is the cruising ability and the sense of occasion everytime you ride on it. Even you drive it at 50km/hr along a hill side, it give you a feeling of complete freedom and absolute control at every corner. It has enormous torque at low rev and it's evenly distributed at a wide power band. The boxer engine configuration provides low centre of gravity and sublime chassis development by BMW will make a smile in your face on every single trip!
For numerous times I have been stopped by the police road block. I know they just want to have a closer look of it. And the policemen always say it's even rarer than a Ferrari, or a Lamboghini. Of course, it has only 4 in hongkong, including mine :)
Back to the newly renovated BMW showroom. Motorbike accessories are also on display, like BMW helmet and protective clothings. You need different clothings for every 10 degree temperature difference. So in HK, one probably need at least three sets for the whole year.....
Another friend testing the new helmet.....
Small group discussion...on the new GS800 Bike.
As much as I love BMW bikes, BMW are also the topgun in manufacturing vehicles with four wheels. And the slogan "Ultimate Driving Machines" has put forth their philosophy in making cars.
Out of their current car production series, the M3 is my favourite. Now at E90 and E92 (coupe) generation, engine has been upgraded to V8 and 400 horse power!!
Interior of the current M3 4door. A bit bland and dull in my opinion, but still efficient and with excellent driving position. Gearbox is totally new with dual clutch sequential type.
To me, a proper sports car has to be manual, with a "stick" on it. Other option is too compromised. HaHa, May be I am still on the old school philosophy :)
